FAQ
If I instruct you, am I tied into a contract?
You can instruct Kate Walsh on an ad-hoc basis or via a retainer and in both circumstances, Kate will agree fees with you in advance, depending on the level of support you need.
Do you represent individuals?
Kate mainly acts for businesses.
Please see the settlement agreement page if you require advice on your settlement agreement.
I currently pay a monthly fee for HR support; do I really need extra support?
In her unique role as the “complete” employment lawyer, Kate can help you to be a truly proactive employer by identifying issues before they evolve into bigger problems. Her thorough advice, investigations and training sessions will put you ahead of competitors who may only receive basic HR support.
Kate has experience of working in large, regional law firms as well as FTSE-listed organisations as their sole in-house employment lawyer. She therefore brings a wealth of experience in managing both employment and HR issues in a pragmatic manner.
Kate also teaches the next generation of HR leaders in her part-time role at Cardiff University so you can feel assured that your staff will receive an excellent, rather than basic, standard of training.
Should we instruct a traditional law firm instead?
There are some matters which may require the support of a traditional law firm (i.e. group action litigation) but some clients find that instructing a “traditional” law firm is not always the most cost-effective option. Being charged for different fee earners to familiarise themselves with your matter, or being charged for every brief email or call can significantly increase your fees.
Many clients prefer the personalised approach which Kate can offer. If clients choose to instruct Kate on a fixed- retainer basis, Kate will only work with a select number of clients in this way to ensure she has time to deliver a bespoke and personalised service to those clients.
What types of fee packages do you offer?
Kate works with a limited number of clients on a retainer basis. There are four different retainer packages. Please email Kate via kate.walsh@carbonlawpartners.com or use the contact form for more information.
Can I instruct you to deliver tailored training sessions to staff?
Kate can deliver a number of “core” training sessions on a fixed-fee basis but also delivers tailored training packages at highly competitive rates. Kate’s core training sessions cover the following topics:
• The Do’s and Don’ts of disciplinary proceedings.
• Top 10 TUPE tips
• Manging sickness absence
• Sexual harassment: the preventative duty
• Diversity, equity and inclusion
• Menopause awareness
7. Can I instruct you for on-site support with a project?
Kate has extensive experience of supporting clients with a range of different projects from bulk settlement agreements to complex TUPE transfers. Contact Kate for further details of availability and highly competitive daily rates.
